Writing Prompt Excercise — 100 Words

He had smelled it from two blocks away. Later, he would remember thinking of camp fire, of roasting marshmallows, and then spend an entire night with his head over the toilet.

When he first got there, though, it took a moment for the orange glow and sensation of heat to connect to the thick scent of wood smoke. It would take him another to realise the light and the scent were from his home. It would take one more to realise that his wife and daughter were still inside.

It wouldn’t take even one before he went in after them.
