Writing Prompt Excercise — 100 Words

He stood out, in the crowded room. The only one not drinking, the only one not speaking, the only one who didn’t seem to belong there.

She made her way over, smiled, but only received a nod in response. She tried again, same response. She looked around the room, saw people giggling and frowned at the guy. “You could be polite you know.”

“Why?” he asked, finally giving her a response.

She blinked. “What?”

“Why should I be polite to any stranger rude enough to try to strike up a conversation with me when I clearly don’t wish to talk?”
